Three girls were killed and 15 others suffered burn injuries in a massive fire which gutted the entire tent accommodation put up for Rashtra Katha Shibir at Pransla village, near Upleta in gujarat's Rajkot district late on Friday night.

It is to be mentioned that Home Minister Rajnath Singh also did attend the event two days before and actor Mukesh Khanna (Shaktiman fame) was also present at the Shibir the night it caught fire. The state government has announced Rs 3 lakh ex gratia payment to the victims' families and ordered the Rajkot Collector to probe the matter.

The injured are under treatment. Panic struck girl started running for help as almost 70 tents got gutted in fire within a short time. The Rajkot collector Vikrant Pandey said that "Three causalities have been reported".

"Forensic science experts and officials of Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL) along with our investigation team have taken the sample and are investigating if there was any criminal negligence which caused the fire", Rajkot rural superintendent of police Antrip Sood told TOI.

Sood said that a case of "unnatural death" had been registered and relevant sections of the IPC will be added depending upon the findings. But they said there was nothing to worry. As many as 15 fire brigades were deployed to the spot to control the blaze and the girls were admitted to a nearby hospital immediately.
