Starkville Police Chief Frank Nichols said William Thomas "Tommy" Chisholm, 41, entered the Walmart around 9:30 a.m. January 13 and confronted Shauna Witt, 42, a Starkville optometrist whose office was located inside the Walmart building.
Close friends and family of the victim tell police Chisholm and Witt were in an "on again off again" dating relationship.
The suspected killer has been identified in a Saturday morning shooting that left a local optometrist dead at the Walmart Supercenter on Highway 12. She was taken to Oktibbeha County Hospital where she died. Chisholm is now out on a felony bond for an incident related to the victim.
One male was confronted on the scene, after a brief struggle he was detained by police.
SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady said it is unclear at this time if Chisholm will face any additional charges. Now investigators are labeling this as an isolated domestic incident and say the scene is secure and no further threat exists. According to officials the scene is now secure.
This is a developing story.
