The joint venture behind Virginia Black Decadent American Whiskey has announced its intention to offer shares in the brand, with the aim of raising up to US$30m.
Drake is the face and majority shareholder of the company he started through a collaboration with Brent Hocking. The pair believe that is is a rare opportunity for investors to capitalize on the strength of the brand and help "redefine" the whiskey culture in North America as a result. The plan is for Drake and Hocking to raise $30 million, with an IPO expected at the end of the first quarter of the year. Hocking describes Virginia Black as the "perfect combination of exceptionally good juice in exquisite packaging at an accessible price" and is "pleased" that millions of Americans will now have the opportunity to join the "Virginia Black family".
Drake has lately appeared in commercials for Virginia Black as "The Realest Dude Ever" - a parody of Dos Equis' "Most Interesting Man in the World". Drake's Virginia Black whiskey, whose slogan is "One Sip, and Wooh", broke the record for largest first-day sales in Ontario when it was released in September 2016.
Despite Drake's pre-opening celebration, fans may have to wait a little while longer for Pick 6ix to officially open its doors to the public as the restaurant has not yet landed an opening date.
