Barala, 23, had been lodged in jail since August a year ago.

He said that the defence told the court that the accused would not influence anybody in the case.

The cross-questioning of IAS officer V S 's daughter revealed her auto had broken down a day before the incident, on August 3, and she was dropped the next day in Sector 8 to pick up her vehicle at 11.15pm, more than an hour before Barala and his friend Ashish allegedly began to chase her in their auto.

"No application was filed on behalf of the prosecution alleging that the accused had made any attempt to influence anybody", said Vinod Ghai, the counsel for Vikas.

Varnika admitted an advocate, Rajdeep Takoria, was present at the police station when the FIR was registered. She is a daughter of a Senior IAS officer.

In December, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had deferred a hearing on Vikas Barala's bail plea to today. The bail from the HC comes two days after the cross-examination of Kundu was completed at the trial court.

His petition for bail was dismissed four times by the trial court.

Vikas Barala, who has been lodged in Burail jail here, is pursuing a law degree from the Kurukshetra University. "And if the court thinks it's OK to release him on bail, then I don't challenge that decision".

The woman had accused Vikas Barala (23) and his friend Kumar (27) of stalking and attempting to abduct her.

The Chandigarh Police had arrested the duo under non-bailable sections.

Charges were framed against Vikas Barala and his 27- year-old friend, Ashish Kumar, in connection with the case, which had triggered widespread outrage and a spate of protests across the country.
