Oscar-nominee John Malkovich has joined Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile, the Ted Bundy serial killer thriller starring Zac Efron and Lily Collins.
Cowart presided over the trial and sentenced Bundy to death. Shortly before his execution, he confessed to 30 homicides committed in seven states between 1974 and 1978.
Variety revealed Malkovich has been cast in the movie, adding another top-flight name to the roster of talent. Efron is playing Bundy in the Joe Berlinger-directed true-crime thriller which will follow the story of Bundy's infamous trial from the perspective of his girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer, who will be portrayed by Lily Collins.
Joe Berlinger (Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2) is directing the film from a Black List screenplay by Michael Werwie, with shooting set to begin next week.
Ara Keshishian and Nicolas Chartier are producing for Voltage Pictures. Michael Costigan is producing for COTA Entertainment. Michael Simkin is producing for Efron's Ninjas Runnin' Wild Productions.
The project was announced by Voltage Pictures at the Cannes Film Festival past year with Efron attached. Voltage is fully financing, with Jonathan Deckter and Ninjas Runnin' Wild's Jason Barrett as executive producers. He was nominated for Academy Awards for "Places in the Heart" and "In the Line of Fire". Malkovich, whose credits also include Dangerous Liaisons, Con Air and R.E.D., is repped by WME.
