The acknowledgment comes from The Economic Alliance for Michigan (EAM), a nonprofit group comprised of Michigan's largest employers and unions, along with The Leapfrog Group, a Washington D.C-based organization aiming to improve health care quality for consumers.
Among all hospital categories rated - general, children's, rural and teaching - only about 6 percent of eligible hospitals from across the USA earned the Top Hospital award from The Leapfrog Group this year.
Francis Hospital, Escanaba is one out of 18 hospitals in the country to earn the Top Rural Hospital award. The survey measures hospitals' performance in many areas of hospital care including reduced medication rates and capacity to prevent medication errors. The rigorous standards are defined in each year's Top Hospital Methodology.
"We are proud to recognize Lancaster General Hospital as a 2017 Leapfrog Top Hospital. The entire staff and board deserve praise for putting quality first and achieving results", said Leah Binder, president and CEO of Leapfrog.
The selection of Leapfrog's Top Hospitals is based on the results of the 2017 Leapfrog Hospital Survey, completed by almost 1,900 hospitals annually. To see the full list of institutions honored as 2017 Top Hospitals, visit www.leapfroggroup.org/tophospitals.
