Veteran actor and Member of Parliament Shatrughan Sinha slammed director Sanjay Leela Bhansali for organising a special screening of his film Padmavati for media before getting it certified. Sinha was critical of Bhansali at an event where he was honoured by the Rajput Karni Sena, the same fringe group that has been opposing Padmavati tooth and nail.
The actor-turned-politician also asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani to break silence on the entire controversy.
According to Deccan Chronicle, Central Board of Film Certification has requested the government to bring forward historians who are well versed with the story of Queen Padmavati, and in particular it's ballad by 16th century poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi, in which Bhansali has based his film from.
Padmavati producers Viacom18 Motion Pictures had released a video of Bhansali wherein the filmmaker reminded the agitators that there was no dream sequence involving Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh) and Padmavati (Deepika Padukone) in his film.
As per latest reports, the makers of the film are planning to announce the release date soon after the Gujarat elections.
