Coastal and southern districts of the State are likely to receive heavy rainfall as the depression over South-East Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood are likely to turn into a deep depression during the next 24 hours. As per reports, the depression over southeast Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood moved northwards at a speed of about 35 kmph during on Thursdat and lay centred about 870 km southeast of Gopalpur.
"Rain or thundershower likely to occur at a few places in the coastal adjoining Koraput, Gajapati & Malkangiri districts during the next 24 hours and thereafter widespread rain or thundershower in coastal districts with many places in interior districts till 10th December", it forecasted.
The IMD further said the system is likely to move north-northwestwards and reach north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts around the morning of December 9. Distant cautionary signal number one (DC-I) has been hoisted at Paradip and Gopalpur ports. On December 8 and 9 strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph are expected to blow over Odisha and Andhra Pradesh coast. Sea condition would be rough to very rough along and off Odisha coasts and fishermen are advised not to venture into sea from December 10, it added.
The warning said more than ten districts of Odisha are likely to be lashed by heavy rains coupled with squally winds from Friday due to a depression over Bay of Bengal.
