To build on that success (and steal some of PUBG's thunder, ahead of its arrival on Xbox One), the free-to-play title is adding an insane new game mode. Instead of a 100 player free-for-all, it will be two squads of 50 scrapping it out till one team is left standing.
During tonight's broadcast of The Game Awards, a new trailer debuted for Fornite: Battle Royale revealing the game's brand new 50v50 mode that will let players take on another team of 50 in epic-sized matches, though the mode will only be available for a limited time. It's 50v50 and freely available in the Fortnite Battle Royale portion of the game.
Epic Games also hinted at cross-play support potentially coming in the future.
To unlock the new Soldier, Constructor, Ninja and Outlander characters, you'll need to complete the "Loot Llamas" quest. The mode will be available through Sunday, December 17.
