"To equal the UPA's ten year average, the economy will have to grow at 10.6% in the fifth year, I would be happy if it were to happen but I frankly do not think it will", Manmohan Singh told media persons in Gujarat's Rajkot. "Whoever faced corruption allegations during UPA was dealt with strictly, but the same can not be said about the BJP". The Congress leader criticised the BJP for not doing enough to tackle allegations of corruption levelled against the party leaders.

Commenting on foreign policies of the Modi government, Manmohan Singh said, "Our national security has been hurt by the inconsistent foreign policies of this Government, some steps taken by Modi Govt were not in the best interest of the country".

Addressing a gathering in poll-bound Gujarat's Rajkot, the senior Congress leader said: "Whoever faced corruption allegations during UPA was dealt with strictly, but the same can not be said about BJP".

The former prime minister said that while Modi claimed to understand Gujarat and the poor "more than anybody else", how was it that "he never understood the pain his decisions unleashed". Manmohan Singh said that Modi never discussed with him regarding Narmada and he also clarified that he never refused to meet Modi as CM.

"I was always ready as being the prime minister it was my responsibility to meet all chief ministers".
