According to Variety, Icelandic actor, Sverrir Guðnason will be starring in "The Girl in the Spider's Web", a new instalment in the Millennium franchise by Swedish author Stieg Larsson.

Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist took on the lead roles in the original Swedish films, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, which were all released in 2009. "Blade Runner 2049" actress Sylvia Hoeks has been set to play Salander's twin sister, while "The Square" star Claes Bang will take on a villainous role.

The Girl in the Spider's Web is the second English-language feature film adaptation of novels in the Millennium series. Production will begin in January in Berlin and Stockholm, and Sony will unveil The Girl In the Spider's Web on October 19, 2018. The previous books in the series have been adapted into Swedish-language films, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was a remake of the Swedish film. Released in 2011, the David Fincher-directed film became a global hit for Columbia Pictures, grossing over $230 million worldwide against its budget of $90 million. Spider's Web is the fourth book in the Millennium series, as it is known, and was written by David Lagercrantz after Larsson died in 2004.

Gudnason is relatively unknown in the US but will soon be seen opposite Shia LaBeouf in the tennis drama Borg/McEnroe.
