Andrew White, the son of the late Texas Gov. Mark White, will announce his bid for governor Thursday.
Quoting Sam Houston, White -who is the son of former Texas Democratic Governor Mark White- said at a press conference held in west Houston that he is running "to do right and risk the consequences". In an official announcement speech, White says, "With a career in business, I've never spent a day as a politician, and I won't play political games". "But I'm not running because I'm his son", White said. "I'm running because we need more leaders like Mark White".
White is a Houston entrepreneur. He is expected to pitch himself as a "common sense Democrat" who believes the state's GOP leaders have lurched too far to the right - and as a primary candidate who stands the best chance of triumphing in the general election.
Andrew White is an investor from Houston. White is seen as potentially her closest competition in a contest that also features a half dozen lesser-known Democrats.
Both Valdez and White will join a list of at least six others competing in the 2018 democratic primary, all of which seek to challenge incumbent Republican Governor Greg Abbott.
