Overwatch's Winter Wonderland event returns with new Mei content

Overwatch's Winter Wonderland event returns December 12

Overwatch's holiday event returns next week with new Mei-focused mode

It's the holiday season, and Overwatch is celebrating adequately. But, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan says a long-awaited Hanzo skin people have seen before (maybe in the comics) is on the way. Events like Winter Wonderland are important to a game like this because they keep players engaged and may convince some players to spend money on microtransactions.

Blizzard just released a new Developer Update video detailing the second coming of the Winter Wonderland event for Overwatch. He added that holiday skins are also on the way for "two of our favorite Junkers" - i.e., Junkrat and Roadhog.

We expect to get a glimpse of more skins leading up to the event next week. The Ecopoint: Antarctica map is also in the mix alongside the black Forest arena, along with winterized versions of numerous game's maps to coincide with the event.

The starkest change is in the brawl that will be available in Arcade Mode this year.

In the mode, which takes place on the Nepal map, the Mei players will start out hunting Winston while he tries to evade them and track down stacks of meat.

While Winter Wonderland is a revival of last year's event, Blizzard is bringing some major new additions.

Overwatch's Winter Wonderland returns next week on Tuesday. But once Winston triggers Primal Rage, the mode flips: It becomes all about the Meis attempting to escape before Winston can kill them. You can once again enjoy the Global Snowball Offensive mode that has a team of Meis throwing balls of fresh powder at one another, but you can now play that mode on the Black Forest map as well. Once that happens, the Yeti will prove a formidable foe for the six Mei players.

All in all, Mei's Yeti Hunt sounds like a blast.
