Hughes admitted that Jese was in his plans to make more appearances over the busy festive period but is now unsure when the 24-year-old will be back in action.
Asked if Jese had apologised, Hughes added: " Not in so many words because his English isn't great but he understands that it was incorrect".
He will be unavailable for the league game against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon (Sunday morning AEDT) because he has returned to Gran Canaria to be with his baby son Nyan, who was born prematurely.
"At the moment there is an on-going issue with his child's health, and he won't be available this weekend", Hughes said.
"My intention with the games we have coming up was to involve him more along with other players to share the burden with the players who have been playing more regularly".
The defender suffered a serious groin injury early in the second half of the 2-1 win over Swansea and was wheeled off on a stretcher.
Hughes said of Martins Indi: "As we feared, he's likely to be out for quite some time".
"The worst-case scenario is eight weeks, but we hope he will be back before then".
"He has really damaged the groin area, and to be fair we sensed that on the day because he was in a significant amount of pain. He has started his treatment already, but it will be a long process". "But he's still very much in my thoughts, as are the likes of Saido (Berahino) and Charlie Adam".
Stoke manager Mark Hughes has confirmed Bruno Martins Indi is out with a groin injury but Geoff Cameron is available after concussion.
