Asher Angel has been cast as Billy Batson opposite Zachary Levi in New Line's DC superhero film "Shazam!", sources tell Variety. Created by C.C. Beck and writer Bill Parker, the character was first published by Fawcett Comics.
The film is about Batson, who can transform into an adult superhero by uttering the magic word "Shazam!".
"Shazam!" will be the next DC Cinematic Universe movie to begin shooting, ahead of "Flashpoint", the Joss Whedon-directed "Batgirl", and the "Suicide Squad" sequel, which Gavin O'Connor just came aboard to helm.
Shazam hits theaters on April 5, 2019.
Creation filmmaker David F. Sandberg is directing from a script by Darren Lemke (Jack the Giant Slayer) and Henry Gayden (Earth to Echo). One potential replacement villain could be Doctor Sivana, who made his debut with the hero in Whiz Comics #2 in 1940. Jack is best known as hypchondriac and Losers Club member Edward "Eddie" Kaspbrak in "It.' "It" collected 694 million across the globe making it the highest grossing horror film ever".
