The worldwide premier of the SUV took place at the factory near Bologna on December 4, before a large audience that included Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, as well as several sport celebrities.
The Lamborghini Urus sports a new front-mounted, 4.0 liter petrol V8 twin-turbo aluminum engine, delivering 650 hp at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 850 Nm at 2,250-4,500 rpm and comes mated to an automatic eight-speed gearbox.
According to chairman and chief executive officer Stefano Domenicali, it represents "a visionary approach based on the infusion of Lamborghini DNA into the most versatile vehicle, the SUV".
The recently unveiled Lamborghini Urus Super Sport Utility Vehicle or SSUV is already making its way to India. Lamborghini claims the Urus is the world's fastest SUV with a 0-100kph time of just 3.6sec, and 0-200kph taking all of 12.8sec.
The first models have a suggested retail price of $200,000 and will be available in 2018.
The workforce grew from 1,298 units to some 1,500 units by June this year, including 400 permanent new hires for the Urus production.
