Have you ever wondered why Veterans Day is such an important holiday?
For example, in the Vietnam War, approximately 58,220 Americans passed away.
However, this year, Veterans Day was the 100th Anniversary of the United States entering World War I. This was a decisive event as the war ended one year later, in 1918. Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3232 and the "Band of Brothers" group started the day by holding a sunrise ceremony at the Pacific Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Unfortunately, the peace after that war only lasted 2 decades, and numerous lessons from The Great War have been lost.
FREDERICKTOWN - On Saturday, Fredericktown veterans, families and friends gathered for the annual Veterans Day Remembrance Dinner sponsored by Fredericktown American Legion Post 500. President Woodrow Wilson noted November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day.
It was called the, "Great War to end all Wars".
That is why Veterans Day is such an important holiday.
