But the I and B ministry removed the two films from the final selection of 26 films that will be screened as part of the "India Panorama" section at the festival.
I&B Ministry released the final list on November 9 and had taken off these two names, which were recommended by the jury.
Sanal's film, formerly called Sexy Durga, had run into some trouble even before MAMI film festival. His advocate, Manu Sebastian, told Mirror, "We have filed a writ petition today challenging the decision of the I&B Ministry for excluding our film from Indian Panorama. "They are supposed to publish the list two-three weeks before the festival begins, but they delayed it on objective".
The film, a road movie that follows the horrifying experience of two hitchhikers, a man and a woman, at the hands of two men in the dead of the night, won the Hivos Tiger Award in the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2017. "But there's always another festival and I will not give up", sighs Ravi.
Disapointed with this decision, Sasidharan has already sent an email to the ministry asking for the reasons behind the "arbitrary removal of the film" and demanding the screening of the movie selected by the jury.
