Russian Foreign Minister to visit Baku and Yerevan

The Azerbaijani media once again tried to distort the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman's remarks, Armen Israyelyan, an expert on Iranian studies wrote on Facebook, reflecting on the question addressed to the Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Bahram Qassemi by a reporter of APA Azerbaijani news agency regarding Armenian foreign minister's visit to Israel. "The stopovers are first and foremost to mark the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan", Lavrov has said, according to TASS.

The Russian FM added that the agenda will include discussion of bilateral relations with each of the countries, and also existing problems.

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

Russia, along with the USA and France, is a co-chair country of the OSCE Minsk Group established to broker a peace to the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations.
