Rock Thrown at Australian Team's Bus After T20 Win Over India

Guwahati: Two youngsters were on Wednesday arrested by the Gorchuk Police here in association with a stone-pelting incident on the Australian team bus after the second T20 match against India on Tuesday night.

Cricket Australia s news site said no one was hurt when the window was broken by a rock roughly the size of a cricket ball, but the Australian players were "understandably shaken up". "India remains a graceful host", Rathore, who replaced Vijay Goel as the Sports Minister earlier this year, tweeted. He said that the security personnel helped restore calmness and described the incident as 'pretty scary'. It all happened after their T20 victory over India in Guwahati.

No-one was injured in the incident that happened as the team was returning to their hotel from the Barsapara Stadium.

However, Rathore implied the incident as a one-off and assured that the visiting athletes for the Federation Internationale de Football Association U-17 World Cup should not panic as security around the hotel in which the teams were staying was tightened as a follow-up. On that occasion the team was travelling in an armed convoy amid a level of security usually granted to visiting heads of state, with roads blocked off and armed guards patrolling crowds while the convoy was moving.

Sonowal said he has directed Assam chief secretary Vinod Kumar Pipersenia to conduct the inquiry and submit a report to him. We strongly condemn it. Vow to take the strictest action against the culprits.

"Really unfortunate incident after a great game aimed to tarnish Guwahati's reputation as emerging sports hub".

This incident took place after the players and staff were traveling from Busapara Stadium back to their team hotel in the eastern city.

"So, whoever got indulged in the hooliganism did it on the sole objective of defaming Assam & derailing its journey towards the top".

The police have detained two persons for alleged involvement in the incident which followed India's defeat in the second of the three-match T20I series. Australia opening batsman Aaron Finch posted a photo of a shattered window on a bus on Twitter.
