A somber procession and wake was held Thursday as hundreds lined up to pay their respects. The brilliant late afternoon sun glinted off Remigio's police motorcycle, which was parked on the lawn of the funeral home.
"Difficult and heartbreaking do little to describe the pain we, the Remigio family and friends, are continuing to experience after the tragic death of our father", the Remigio family expressed in a written statement read by one of the late officer's close friends, Somerville police Lt. James Polito.
Authorities say Remigio died Sunday morning when a Mercedes driven by 18-year-old Michael Ricci, of Burlington, hit him head on.
Daughters Danielle and Alexandra lost their mother a year ago to an illness and said their father worked harder after that to make sure their family traditions stayed alive.
Remigio leaves behind two daughters, who in a statement said their father was dedicated, humble and a role model in every way. "He had a passion to be kind, and I think that came through in his policing".
