The only other release that Valentine's Day is New Line's Isn't It Romantic.
After his appearance in the ill-fated X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie, where he was played by Taylor Kitsch, it looked for years like he might finally get a proper movie, with Channing Tatum assaying the role.
Fox has scheduled three movies in its expanding "X-Men" universe for 2018, with "New Mutants" set to open on April 13, "Deadpool 2" on June 1, and "X-Men: Dark Phoenix" on November 2.
Created by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee in 1990, Gambit, a New Orleans native mutant, quickly became a fan favorite due to his kinetic energy manipulation abilities and penchant for stealing. The film has been in development for some time, with Verbinski coming on board last week following departures of filmmakers Rupert Wyatt in October 2015 and Doug Liman in August 2016.
Mark your calendars (in mechanical pencil, maybe, rather thank ink) for February 14, 2019 as the date to see Remy Le Beau step up to movie lead. Whether the Gambit movie actually does get made and makes this release date is another story, though; a February 2019 release would put it almost two and a half years after its initial October 2016 projected release date. The first trailer for New Mutants hits at 12:01 PT Friday.
