Wesley Mathews was arrested on child endangerment charges after his daughter 3 was reported missing

Her father apparently made her stand beneath a tree about 100 feet from their home at 3:00 a.m. that morning because she would not drink her milk.

An Amber Alert for Sherin Matthews was issued on Saturday, Oct. 7, after her parents reported her missing.

"She did cooperate with the police and the fact that there may be conversations that occurred between Wesley and a third party.she is not aware of those. That's the question we want answered as well", police Sergeant Kevin Perlich told NBC5. "As far as why she was out there, how long she was out there, that's the questions we have for the parents".

The Mathews family adopted the girl two years ago at an orphanage in India and she was malnourished when the couple took her in.

They also have a 4-year-old biological child, who was removed by the Child Protective Services (CPS) on Monday.

"We don't have any other indication or evidence that she was forcibly abducted from that area", Perlich said.

Police were checking on registered sex offenders in the area who might be connected to Sherin's disappearance, but noted there was no evidence she had been kidnapped.

Wesley Mathews, 37, was arrested Saturday on charges of abandoning or endangering a child.

She is portrayed as three feet tall, measuring 22 pounds with dark hair and darker eyes.

They said she experiences formative issues and has restricted verbal relational abilities. Investigators are also now reviewing footage from surveillance cameras, cellphones and laptops to try to determine the whereabouts of the child.

Mathews told investigators it wasn't unusual for the girl to wake up late at night to eat so that her weight would increase, Perlich said.

The community is also shaken up from the matter as well as the toddler's great-uncle.

As times ticks on, the people committed to this search say they're going to keep looking for Sherin regardless of whether the family comes out to help. "The parents are believers in Christ".

"I can't believe I have to do this right now, I never thought this day would come that the cutest baby in our church has gone missing", Joanna Cherian told NBC 5 in disbelief. "She is distraught", he said.

"She's very much anxious and depressed", Jose said of Sherin's mother. "And you leave your baby?"

Police officers and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents were at the home on Wednesday, CBS DFW reports, and served a search warrant to look for evidence.
