At least 22 people died after a boat carrying 60 people capsized in river Yamuna in Baghpat on Thursday.
It capsized not far from the river bank in Katha village in northern Uttar Pradesh state, 45 km (30 miles) north of the capital, New Delhi. The boat had a capacity for only 35 passengers, said district magistrate Bhawani Singh.
Villagers told the police the boat was overcrowded, which could be one reason for the tragedy.
