He is now on a season-long loan with Italian giants Juventus but agent Volker Struth confessed that the Foxes were keen to take him to the King Power Stadium during the transfer window.

Howedes left Schalke for Italy on a one-year loan deal after being stripped of the captaincy by new coach Domenico Tedesco.

"When this new situation arrived we get in touch with Paratici".

Struth admits Juventus showed an interest in the Germany worldwide five years ago, but a move failed to materialise.

"We held talks with Roma, Leicester and Arsenal because we heard that Inter wanted Mustafi", Struth told Sport Bild.

"With all due respect for Schalke, when a top club like Juve comes in you have to go there".

Mustafi ended up staying put in north London and Howedes eventually completed his dream move to Juventus.

Leicester City, meanwhile, bolstered their defence with the signings Harry Maguire from Hull City and Aleksandar Dragovic from Bayer Leverkusen, with the Austrian joining the club on deadline day.

Howedes had spent his entire professional career with the Royal Blues, making more than 300 appearances in all competitions for the club since his 2007 debut.
