Actor Frank Vincent who made a name for himself playing tough guys in films and on television’s The Sopranos has died his family has confirmed

Frank Vincent, a film and television actor best known for roles in "The Sopranos" as well as several Martin Scorsese films, has died, TMZ reports.

Some of his most memorable roles include Billy Batts in "Goodfellas" and Phil Leotardo - Tony's nemesis - in "The Sopranos".

Both actors were cast in 1980's "Raging Bull", and they also appeared in Scorsese's "Goodfellas" and "Casino".

TMZ says Vincent suffered a heart attack last week, and underwent open-heart surgery Wednesday. "The Jersey mob is nothing - they don't even prick their fingers when they do the ceremony.' Some of the writing for Phil was just brilliant".

Vincent also starred in The Pope of Greenwich Village (1984), Brian De Palma's Wise Guys (1986), Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing (1989), Night Falls on Manhattan (1996), Shark Tale (2004) and Chicago Overcoat (2009).

According to Variety, his Sopranos co-star, Vincent Pastore, took to Facebook to announce the news.
