Five people died at a nursing home in Hollywood, Florida, in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, officials said Wednesday.
The facility has evacuated its residents.
The chief of Hollywood police said a criminal investigation has been opened up into the deaths of the residents, but did not offer any further details.
She didn't name the specific facility, although local media reports have identified it as the Rehabilitation Center of Hollywood Hills. The nursing home has apparently been without air conditioning since the storm.
Ten million people are still without power in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas after Hurricane Irma.
The person "supposedly was without electricity for a few days", Grossman said, but it was not clear how long the resident had been without power. "It just doesn't seem to be going anywhere and I can't do anything until we get that fuse popped back in".
Tuesday's low temperature in Hollywood, according to the National Weather Service, was 79 degrees.
