Nintendo's Switch Online app, intended for voice chat, has been notoriously bad.
In today's 1.1.0 update, the app now lets you use voice chat even when the app isn't front and centre. If you switched over to another app or put your phone to sleep, you were suspended out of the voice chat room.
Seriously, though, it's troubling that it's taken Nintendo this long to introduce a feature that should have been there from day one. The best thing about the latest version of the application is that your voice chat will continue while other applications are open.
The Nintendo Switch Online App allows Switch players to enhance their online gameplay experience on the Nintendo Switch by checking for game-specific services, inviting friends to play through social media, and using voice-chat while playing. In addition to voice chat improvements and bug fixes, the Google Play Store mentions that Bluetooth support for devices has also been improved.
Note: On devices using Android 6.0 or later, voice chat can not be used during sleep mode while power-saving features are activated.
