British authorities have frozen properties belonging to fugitive Indian underworld gangster Dawood Ibrahim. In 2015, Forbes estimated Dawood Ibrahim's net asset at US$ 6.7 billion. He has been listed on the latest UK Treasury Department's Consolidated List of Financial Sanctions Target under three recorded addresses in Pakistan, where he is reportedly based.
The Treasury sanction document lists three recorded addresses for Dawood Ibrahim in Pakistan including one called The White House in the seaside Clifton area in Karachi.
As per reports, Dawood owns a hotel in Warwickshire and other residential properties across the Midlands in the UK. Dawood Ibrahim is also reported to have properties in Dartford and Essex and in central London.
In 2015, the Indian investigators visited the Midlands to identify and seize the underworld kingpin's assets in the UK. Reports say Dawood's total assets are worth $6.7 billion. But Pakistan has repeatedly denied his presence in the country.
The list includes 21 of Dawood's aliases including Abdul Aziz, Abdul Hamid, among others. He fled India post the bombings and is hiding in Pakistan at present, according to PTI reports.
In 2013, the US Treasury Department declared him a global terrorist while the United Nations sanctions list Dawood as an associate and funder of Al Qaeda.
However, according to DNA, a fortnight ago, former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf had hinted that Dawood was in his country, but also added that it would not assist India to capture him. "Dawood Ibrahim is in Pakistan". Mehrishi had said the government is taking all required action so that Ibrahim could be brought back to India.
