Venezuela could become a risk to US: CIA director

CIA Director Mike Pompeo says nuclear war with North Korea is not 'imminent'

Pompeo: North Korea Moving Toward Ability to Hit US With Nuclear Strike at 'Alarming Rate'

North Korea is thought to have developed a miniaturized warhead, and a more advanced intercontinental ballistic missile, that would enhance its ability to deliver a nuclear payload against the U.S.

But the intelligence chief also said he saw no imminent threat of North Korea attacking the USA with such a nuclear weapon, although he expected the rogue nation's missile program would continue despite global sanctions.

Still, he said Americans shouldn't be alarmed.

"What I believe the president is trying to accomplish this week was to give the Venezuelan people hope and opportunity to create a situation where democracy can be restored", Pompeo said.

He said the USA has a "pretty good idea" of North Korea's intentions, but he declined to provide specifics.

President Trump wrote on Twitter on Friday that U.S.

BEDMINSTER, N.J./BEIJING - President Donald Trump issued a new threat to North Korea on Friday, saying what he called US military solutions were "locked and loaded" as Pyongyang accused him of driving the Korean peninsula to the brink of nuclear war.

Now it was on countries like China and Russian Federation along with USA allies like South Korea and Japan to work in tandem to get nuclear weapons out of the region.

Mr Trump said the U.S. military was "locked and loaded", while Pyongyang has accused him of "driving" the Korean peninsula to the "brink of a nuclear war".

Trump has pushed China to pressure North Korea to halt a nuclear weapons program that is nearing the capability of targeting the United States.

Following Trump's initial threat, North Korea threatened to target the tiny Pacific island of Guam, a USA territory that is home to large US air and naval bases.

North Korea, for its part, threatened to shoot four missiles towards the island of Guam, a strategic outpost of the u.s. forces in the Pacific, where are stationed about 6,000 american soldiers.

A Chinese state-run newspaper said on Friday that China should remain neutral if North Korea launches an attack that threatens the United States, sounding a warning for Pyongyang over its plans to fire missiles near Guam. Trump has said he would not allow Pyongyang to develop a nuclear weapon capable of hitting the United States. "All those smart people who are criticizing his rhetoric and his policy, how well did you do?"

"The Cubans are there; the Russians are there, the Iranians, Hezbollah are there", he said on "Fox News Sunday".
