The death toll in dengue in Odisha has increased to two and in swine flu to eight today. Harihar was admitted to the hospital on August 8. He said from now onwards Chief Medical Superintendents of the government hospitals would send swab samples directly to the GSVM lab for swine flu confirmation.
"The patient had been admitted in a critical condition and was immediately shifted to the ICU, where his condition further deteriorated and he succumbed to the viral disease this morning", informed the hospital's nodal officer Shiba Prasad Mohanty.
The first dengue death of the season was reported on August 9 when 35-year-old Som Prakash Mishra of Bihar died while undergoing treatment at the SCB.
Meherda inspected SCBMCH's 16-bed special isolation ward located between diarrhoea and skin departments and also examined the 40-bed isolation ward, which was opened on Thursday for treatment of swine flu patients. Meanwhile, a report said at least two doctors, one at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and another at the Capital Hospital here, have tested positive to the H1N1 virus.
