Philly gets No. 1 pick from Sixers, chance to draft Fultz

Markelle Fultz works out for Philadelphia amid Celtics Sixers draft trade talks

The case for Gonzaga's Nigel Williams-Goss as a Sixers' 2nd round pick

They have a supremely talented young core, but will be relying on two players, Ben Simmons and presumably Markelle Fultz, who have yet to play a second in the National Basketball Association, plus another, Joel Embiid, with a long history of health issues.

The Boston Celtics made headlines when they traded out of the first overall pick in Thursday's NBA Draft.

Lakers looking to add another first-round draft pick, sources say: ESPN: Los Angeles now holds the second and 28th picks in this year's draft. But if either of those picks become the first overall, the Celtics will receive the other pick. If the Celtics felt Fultz isn't the draft's surefire best player, acquiring another pick with the player they crave would be smart and give them a bit more cap room, with a No. 3 pick being cheaper to sign than a No. 1. If not, the Celtics get a higher floor (getting the more favorable of two picks, rather than just one wherever it lands) and a lower ceiling (no No. 1 pick) with the 2019 selection. What if the Celtics are in talks with other teams, dealing some of their many future 1st round picks and some of their assets, to bring in that Super Star they have been so eager to have for over these past few years.

Terms of the deal were agreed upon Saturday night after Fultz conducted a workout for the 76ers.

"We are very pleased with the outcome of this trade, which puts us in the enviable position of selecting first overall in consecutive draft years", Philadelphia president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo said.

"I'm pretty happy that the players here want me to come here". With the addition of Fultz, the 76ers now has a playmaker who can run an offense and should look to make a trade for a better scoring option at SG like Eric Bledsoe of the Phoenix Suns. The 76ers will receive the pick in exchange for the No. 3 overall pick, and either a 2018 first round pick that will be the Lakers pick if it falls between No. 2 and No. 5, or a 2019 first round pick held by either the Kings or the 76ers per reports from ESPN.

"We feel like it's a jump-start for us", Ainge said. Fultz, 19, averaged 23.2 points (47.6 percent from the field and 41.3 percent from three), 5.9 assists and 5.7 rebounds last season. Fultz would join a Philadelphia roster that includes Simmons, Jahlil Okafor and 2017 Rookie of the Year finalists Joel Embiid and Dario Saric.

The Celtics have been linked with either Josh Jackson of Kansas or Jayson Tatum of Duke at No 3, although multiple media outlets reported the team may be willing to deal the pick. He was the top freshman scorer in the country.

There are some conditions on the future first-rounder Boston gets out of this deal.
