According to Fox News, the handwritten list was found in a van belonging to James Hodgkinson by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the lawmakers named on the list are known to be conservative members associated with the Freedom Caucus.

For now, Scalise remains in critical condition in the hospital's intensive care unit.

According to investigators, while James Hodgkinson was firing at members of Congress Wednesday morning he was carrying a handwritten list in his pocket with names of several Republican congressman.

Hodgkinson was a Democrat and supporter of the presidential campaign of Sen. "I think that it would be inappropriate to comment on an ongoing investigation in terms of the motives until investigators have an opportunity to do their job". Hodgkinson maintained a social media presence that was pro-Bernie Sanders and anti-Republican. "I also want to thank the Capitol Police for their heroic actions to prevent further harm".

Authorities identified the gunman as James Hodgkinson, a 66-year-old home inspector from the St Louis suburb of Belleville, Illinois.

O'Connor said there's nothing to suggest that Bost was a target.

"I am sickened by this despicable act", Sanders said in a statement condemning all acts of violence. "There's no way of knowing what his motivation was".

Duncan spoke with Hodgkinson before he opened fire at the Republican congressional baseball practice, wounding five including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise.

Hodgkinson, who was killed by police during the rampage, contacted both of his state's Democratic senators frequently, spokesmen said Friday. The bullet fractured bone and injured organs, MedStar Washington Hospital Center said.

Hodgkinson's list included Republican Reps. The person did not disclose the names, but said those listed had been briefed.

Also suffering relatively minor injuries were two Capitol Police officers, David Bailey and Crystal Griner, and House GOP aide Zack Barth.

Bailey was spotted Friday back in the Capitol building, on crutches and out of uniform, accepting congratulations from fellow officers.
