Gingrich posted his tweets after The Washington Post reported Wednesday night that Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russian officials now expanded to include a probe into whether Trump committed obstruction of justice with his firing of former FBI Director James Comey last month.
"He called me because I've been very clear about the fact that Mueller, hiring 4 Democrats, the attorneys are all Democrats, one of them worked for The Clinton Foundation", said Speaker Gingrich.
"I think you'll find in this latest allegation that the Russian ambassador was one of 90 people in a room, and then he rode home and said 'I met with Senator Sessions because it made him look good, '" said Speaker Gingrich.
Gingrich said he has cautioned many in the Trump administration about the seriousness of the current investigations.
Comey helped prompt the appointment of a special counsel that's become a legal "nightmare" that's "trying to block the Trump presidency'".
"The brazen redefinition of Mueller's task tells you how arrogant the deep state is and how confident it is it can get away with anything", he added. Reports have indicated Mueller is looking into whether Trump tried to obstruct justice.
Trump on Friday evening by sharing a tweet touting the conservative host's monologue and the appearance by Gingrich blasting the special counsel. I think that it will be interesting to watch.
Gingrich has been on the front lines the past week defending the president in the wake of the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russian election meddling.
While he repeatedly said it wasn't his place to say whether Trump's actions amounted to an obstruction of justice - an impeachable offense - he said he's "sure" that Mueller would investigate if they did.
Gingrich: "You want to know the truth?" "I don't think that tweet helped him", Gingrich said on ABC's "This Week". "But it's nearly like it's who he has been his whole life. He is infuriated, and legitimately, in my judgment, by this whole Russian baloney".
