Larson wins pole for All-Star race at Charlotte

These were the only five drivers to transfer to the second round of the 16 already secured of a spot in the All-Star Race.

If the option tires reduce lap times by half a second, cars and drivers will be circulating around the 1.5-mile Charlotte track at very high rates of speed - faster than ever before. "I hope we win the All-Star race tomorrow".

Kyle Busch, who like Larson is looking for his first all-star win, will start on the outside of Row 1. Logano seemed likely to bump the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series leader from the fast five until he carried too much speed onto pit road, overshot his stall by more than a full pit box and had to back up for service.

This weekend, NASCAR's finest head to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Monster Energy All-Star Race.

"The loose lug nut was costly and we just have to make it up in the race tomorrow", Truex said.

Dale Jr.is competing in his final All-Star Race.

"I knew everybody would try to push a little bit harder that last round", Larson said of the two-round session. "I did everything I could possibly do to be the best driver to the fans, to be as nice as I possibly could".

Last year, Larson came close, winning the all-star last-chance qualifying race and leading the main event until late in the race, when Joey Logano got by him for the victory.

NASCAR has once again tweaked the rules.

Worth mentioning: NASCAR will provide teams with one set of tires with a softer rubber compound. But if they put them on for the final 10-lap segment, they will have to start at the rear of the field.

The strategy will be whether to use them early to get into the final 10-lap shootout or wait until the end. "I feel like starting up front with the way that the tires are and the way that everything is will be a huge benefit, because of the fact of your average position and all of the things that have to happen (to make the final 10 for the final segment of the race)".

Given the way hes run all season, that shouldnt be an issue for Larson this time out. He said they aren't as fast as he thought they would be in practice, giving only three-tenths of the second advantage over the older tires.
