Chris Cornell, Lead Singer Of Soundgarden And AudioSlave, Dies At 52

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's office will make an official determination about the cause of death.

"Chris Cornell passed away late Wednesday night in Detroit, MI".

Ironically, the concert closed with a medley of "Slaves & Bulldozers" and the gospel song "In My Time of Dying", made famous by Led Zeppelin.

A Detroit police spokesman said Cornell's wife called a family friend and asked him to check on Cornell the night he died.

He said in a statement to the Press Association that he could not process news of his death.

The Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman died on Wednesday at age 52.

His last song, "The Promise", was the theme to Christian Bale's film of the same name about the Armenian genocide, a term rejected by Turkey. Incredibly Talented. Incredibly Young.

Cornell appeared to be active on social media in the hours before his death.

Soundgarden formed in 1984 and began generating major attention on the music scene by the early 1990s.

"Badmotorfinger", released in 1991, benefited from the swell of attention that was beginning to surround the Seattle scene, where Soundgarden, along with Nirvana and Pearl Jam, were playing a high-octane, high-angst brand of rock "n" roll. They have been performing together ever since.

Cornell performed and produced solo albums throughout his career.

Temple of the Dog is best known for the hit song, "Hunger Strike", which featured Cornell and Vedder on vocals.

Soundgarden broke up in 1997 and Cornell in 2001 joined members of Rage Against The Machine to form Audioslave, which earned acclaim with its self-titled album. Featuring the Grammy-nominated "Like a Stone", the band's debut album achieved triple platinum status.

Without Cornell and the musical brilliance he's privileged us with, the passion which burned within the core of every driven individual and budding artist in the 90's wouldn't have been as powerful as it was. Cornell, 52, was in Detroit performing with Soundgarden, which had embarked on a U.S. tour in April.

Audioslave reunited in January 2017 to protest the inauguration of President Donald Trump. Soundgarden had been working on their first album since King Animal at the time of Cornell's death.

His theme song for 2006's James Bond film Casino Royale broke into the Top 10 in the United Kingdom singles chart. On April 18, he attended a screening at New York's Paris Theater, accompanied by Karayiannis and their two children: daughter Toni, 12, and son Christopher, 11.
