An Edamame product has been recalled in 33 states due to fears it may be contaminated with potentially fatal listeria bacteria.

Advanced Fresh Concepts Franchise Corp of Rancho Dominguez, California said that the soy product is labeled "Edamame - Soybeans in Pods" and have UPC code 0-23012-00261-9. Contamination was discovered via random testing under AFC's Quality Assurance Program.

It can also be fatal to the elderly, those with chronic medical conditions and people with weakened immune systems. Most healthy individuals suffer only high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain or diarrhea for a short time. No illnesses have been reported to date.

The company has notified all retail locations of the recall, so the product should no longer be available for purchase.

Consumers concerned about whether the Edamame they purchased is subject to this recall should check with the store of purchase.

Customers who bought the recalled edamame should not eat it, and should bring it back to the store where it was bought for a full refund.
