Fox has ordered unscripted series You the Jury, in which the audience decides the verdict of civil cases, the network announced Thursday.
Hosted by Fox News' Jeanine Pirro, You The Jury will showcase six leading attorneys as they question and cross-examine litigants and expert witnesses in order to argue their cases to America and LaDoris Cordell, a retired judge of the Superior Court of California.
Attorneys participating in the show include Jose Baez, who defended Casey Anthony; Benjamin Crump, who has fought for justice for Trayvon Martin; and Joseph Tacopina, who has represented Alex Rodriguez, Jay Z and Don Imus, as well as Areva Martin, Mike Cavalluzzi and Charla Aldous. The West coast broadcast will also be followed with a vote which, if different from the cumulative votes of East/Central and West coast/Mountain time zone combined, will lead to the original verdict being overturned. "Whether it's online trolling and the limits of free speech, the constitutional clash of gay rights with religious freedom, or whether someone's death was the result of a tragic accident or something far more sinister, You the Jury will investigate the law and the intense human stories behind it". The plaintiffs and defendants will deliver their own "closing arguments" in the cases as they sit across from each other, something traditionally done by attorneys.
USA network Fox has commissioned a controversial reality format that will see viewers vote on the verdict of real-life civil legal disputes to produce a binding verdict.
The vote on the verdict is 100% live and binding and it will reflect the decision made by the biggest jury in history - the American public.
The series premieres April 7 and will air in the Friday 9 PM slot.
